The Parenting Class

What is it?

It is a 12-week course that explores topics in parenting to help parents grow healthy relationships in their homes and gain a better understanding of how to build a positive environment for their children and themselves. Lessons will help parents to understand how stages of child development, communication, respect, praise, and nurturing, will lead to more thriving in, rather than just surviving through, this all-too brief period of their lives.

Parenting Class is a 12-week program that addresses such topics as:

• Lesson 1: An Introduction to Parenting, Parenting Concepts and Purpose
• Lesson 2: Development Ages and Stages, Infants and Toddlers
• Lesson 3: Concepts of Brain Development in Children
• Lesson 4: Communicating With Respect, Respect in Relationships
• Lesson 5: Parenting to Build Self-worth
• Lesson 6: Understanding Feelings
• Lesson 7: Family Morals, Values, and Rules
• Lesson 8: Praising children and their Behavior
• Lesson 9: Alternatives to Spanking
• Lesson 10: Dealing With Stress in Parenting
• Lesson 11: Needs for Nurturing in Children
• Lesson 12: What Children Need from Nurturing Parents (part 2)

Students will be provided worksheets in each class to help keep them engaged in the lesson, ensure their participation, and make personal application of the lesson points.

When does the class meet?

The Parenting Class meets every Thursday at 7:00pm at the Brazil United Pentecostal Church at 1088 E US Hwy 40, Brazil, IN 47834, in the education hall.

Participant cost

There is a $30 registration fee for the class.

What Parenting Class offers

The 12-week program uses the curriculum, The Proactive Nurturing Parent: Concepts and Connections, produced by the evidence-based research and experience of the Life in Focus Education program of Corpus Christi, Texas. Our instructors are certified through Life in Focus, and our students will be offered a peer group setting that will help our graduates attain their goal of developing stronger and more positive parenting skills and will reward them with a certificate honoring their completion of the class.
